error reporting / help with debugging

there’s already a gazillion of different android device configurations spread all over the world with each hardware, firmware, carrier & setup having its own peculiarities. before getting in touch, please make sure you’re using the most current version available on the android market and try to uninstall and do a completely fresh install.
we work hard to find solutions for each problem so if you want to help us with debugging please activate crash reports under settings > about twidroyd and reproduce the error.

where can i find currently known issues?

we have a dedicated page for pending known issues.

why are you pushing new updates or changes so often?

because we strive to fix issues and try out new ideas as soon as possible. bandwidth is cheap and most of our users love to test new features.

feature x is not working anymore

see #1 & #2 – if something’s broken there’s a good chance we’re already working on a solution thanks to our supportive community of test users. also, you might do a quick check on twitter’s status page for general issues.

the android market says "download/install failed"

download errors on the android market are not related to twidroyd and are often caused by interrupted internet connectivity. thus, make sure your web connection is stable and reboot your phone to login to the android market again.
also, if you upgrade to twidroyd PRO make sure to uninstall the free version first to avoid any conflicts. you can uninstall the PRO version and re-download it without getting charged twice if you use the same google account/phone. see our purchase FAQ for further infos.

i get a duplicate provider authority error on install twidroyd PRO

please uninstall the free version before going PRO as you can’t run both versions at the same time

i can’t login

make sure that you’ve really entered your correct credentials and try the same directly on twitter.com. also, if you recently changed your password on the web make sure that you update your credentials in twidroyd’s account menu. it sometimes happens that twitter locks out accounts and you can check on their website if your account is affected.

twidroyd says rate limit exceeded

twitter only allows for a certain amount of API calls within an hour; if you reload your messages quite often there’s a chance that you’ll get locked out by twitter for a few hours. this behavior is by design and not related with twidroyd. in addition, every other of your currently running twitter client adds up to this limit.

twidroyd drains my battery

if you have background notifications or gps updates enabled, twidroyd needs a permanent internet connection, thus requires more power from your phone. this is an obvious effect with any perma-connected device or software and disabling these features will help to increase your battery life.

why is there no logout/sign-off?

you don’t need it to save battery. you can disable background notifications in twidroyd’s settings and as soon as switch away from the app, no internet connection is required any more.
hint: enabling "always refresh at launch" will do a refresh right after entering the app again.

do you have multi-account support?

yes, it’s available in our PRO version.

do you have a desktop widget?

yes, see above.

i can’t find/download twidroyd PRO on the android market

unfortunately, google has security mechanisms in place that prevent certain combinations of devices, firmware versions, carriers and countries from downloading certain (not all) commercial applications. however, those policies change very often so we can only encourage you to keep trying frequently whether your phone has been enabled to buy twidroyd. at this point, the ball is in google’s court to resolve those issues. you might as well connect with other users on the technical android forum.

the android market is not yet available in my country, can i download twidroyd somewhere else?

yes, you can activate the free version to enable PRO features via paypal here.

will you support my language in the future?

we’re working with our community and constantly add new languages. if you’d like to help, let us know

will you support my modded/rooted/hacked android phone?

no, use twidroyd at your own risk.

i’ve built a photo/video host or url shortener, will you support it?

unless you’ve earned a significant market share we’re not adding new services at this point. that said, please don’t pitch your service – chances are that we will find you.

what is PostUp?

PostUp is the parent company of twidroyd. it was created both to help twitter users find and follow tweeters most relevant to their interests and to help tweeters gather more targeted followers. PostUp serves search results in widgets that are part of many popular web sites and also within twidroyd and other leading twitter clients. it ranks tweeters and tweets based on a complex algorithm that includes the quality of their tweets, the number and quality of their followers, their klout score, embedded links, how frequently they are retweeted and a number of other variables including bids in a marketplace.

the license agreement says PostUp can retransmit my tweets. what does this mean?

PostUp displays tweeter bios and relevant tweets as part of its delivery of search results to numerous web sites and popular twitter clients. this provision in the end-user license agreement ensures that the company can deliver your tweets without having to first go through twitter, allowing quicker delivery of results. the remaining portions of this provision, such as the fact that you retain the copyright to your own tweets but that you grant twidroyd and PostUp a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to your tweets are the same as those of twitter itself.

why are you not offering support via twitter?

our twitter account is only used for service messages. in order to keep things structured we will only monitor our email ticket system. we do not reply to questions posted on twitter.

any plans for an iphone version?

nope, we focus on market leadership on the android platform.

who’s behind twidroyd?

PostUp, Inc. and originally ralph @zimmermann and @thomas marban.

i would like to help developing new twidroyd features

we appreciate your willingness but at this point twidroyd is closed-source and not open to joint developments.
